Atlas Reading Room

The brief

A small foundation needed a public library for its collection of architecture books, inside a warehouse with almost no windows.

The idea

We opened a strip of roof lights along the spine and built the room around them: oak shelving to the walls, long tables under the light, and alcoves for reading alone.

Details

Every piece of furniture was made by one carpenter in the city, from timber felled within a hundred kilometres.
